Mirror Text Generator

Mirror text here means two ordinary-letter reversals. Word mirror keeps the words in order and reverses the letters inside each word, so “Hello there” becomes “olleH ereht”. Whole-line reverse turns the entire string around, so the same phrase becomes “ereht olleH”.

New

Both rows use the letters you typed. They do not use upside-down phonetic characters, which some fonts draw as boxes.

How to use

  1. Type a short line, up to 280 characters.
  2. Press Mirror and copy the row you meant. They are not the same once there is more than one word.
  3. Reset restores Hello there.

Formula / how it works

Word mirror. The line is split on spaces. Each word is reversed and the spaces are put back. “Hello there” keeps two words. The capital H moves to the end of the first word, so you see olleH, then a space, then ereht. A single word such as Hi becomes iH on both rows, because reversing one word and reversing the whole line are the same operation. The difference appears only when a space gives the two rules something to disagree about.

Whole-line reverse. Every character, including spaces, is taken from the end. The last word becomes the first. This is the rule you can undo by reversing again. Word mirror is undone by word-mirroring again, not by reversing the whole line. If you mix the two, you will not get back to the start. Read the label before you reverse a second time.

Why ordinary letters. Upside-down “mirror” alphabets use other code points. On a font that lacks them you see boxes and you cannot tell whether the tool ran. These rows cannot do that. A strict form that allows only basic Latin will still accept them, apart from any punctuation you typed. The weird text generator also reverses a whole line, and it adds alternating case and a stutter. This page does only the two mirrors, so the labels stay easy to tell apart.

Punctuation and spaces. A comma stays attached to whichever side the reverse puts it. Multiple spaces are preserved, because the split keeps the space runs. A line of only spaces is refused, because there is nothing to mirror. Two hundred and eighty characters is the cap, the same size as a short post, so a mirrored paragraph does not become an unselectable slab.

Reading it back. Word-mirrored English is still awkward. It is a display trick, not a cipher. Do not use it to hide a word from a filter. The letters are all present, only backwards, and a reader can reverse them. The point is the look, and the look survives a paste.

Capitals. The capital letter moves with the character it was on. Hello’s H ends the first word in the word-mirror row. It does not stay at the start, and the tool does not recapitalise the new first letter. If you wanted “Olleh” with a fresh capital, that is an edit after the mirror, not a second mode. One rule is easier to undo than two

Worked examples

Two words, two different mirrors

Inputs: Text: Hello there

Leave the text as Hello there and press Mirror. Word mirror keeps two words. The whole-line row starts with ereht.

Result: Words mirrored: olleH ereht Whole line reversed: ereht olleH Word mirror keeps the order of the words and reverses the letters inside each one. Both rows use ordinary letters.

One word, so both rows match

Inputs: Text: Hi

Change the text to Hi and press Mirror. Both rows are iH, because there is no space to treat differently.

Result: Words mirrored: iH Whole line reversed: iH Word mirror keeps the order of the words and reverses the letters inside each one. Both rows use ordinary letters.

Use cases

  • A title that should read backwards and still paste into a strict form.
  • Showing the difference between reversing words and reversing the whole line.
  • Undoing a word mirror by running word mirror again.
  • Avoiding upside-down characters that some fonts cannot draw.

Tips & limitations

  • Use word mirror a second time to undo word mirror.
  • Use whole-line reverse a second time to undo that row.
  • Do not mix the two and expect the original.
  • A single word makes both rows identical.

FAQ

Why are the two rows different for Hello there?

Word mirror reverses inside each word and keeps the word order. Whole-line reverse also swaps the words.

Why are they the same for Hi?

There is only one word, so both rules move the same two letters.

Is this upside-down text?

No. The letters are the ones you typed, in a different order. No phonetic lookalikes are used.

Will a box appear?

Not from these rows. A box would come from a character you already typed that your font cannot draw.

Can I mirror a paragraph?

Up to 280 characters. Longer text is refused so the reversed line stays selectable.

Is the line uploaded?

No. Both reversals run in the browser.

Runs entirely in your browser; your text is not uploaded. Counts and scores are heuristics, so review the output before you publish it.
