The list is a handful of everyday dishes per cuisine. It will not invent a recipe, estimate a portion, or tell you what to eat for a medical reason.
How to use
- Choose any, Italian, Mexican, Indian or Japanese.
- Ask for 1 to 5 dishes and set a seed.
- Press Pick. Reset restores two dishes from the mixed list at seed 7.
Formula / how it works
The lists are finite and visible in spirit. Each cuisine has four dishes. “Any” has eight, drawn from more than one kitchen so a single pick is not stuck in one country. The generator shuffles by taking a seeded index into the remaining dishes, so you do not see the same dish twice in one press. Ask for two from a four-dish list and you get two different names. Ask for five from a four-dish list and you get four, because the pool runs out. The count in the result is how many were actually written. The random number generator is the tool for a bare integer. The phone number generator is the tool for a fictional telephone. Neither of those knows a dish.
The seed. Seed 7 on “any”, two dishes, is roast chicken and then pad thai. Seed 7 on Indian, one dish, is vegetable biryani. The seed is mixed with the cuisine name, so the same seed in two cuisines is not the same sequence. Write the seed down if a group is choosing together and needs to land on the same plate. Change the seed when you want a different plate. There is no clock in the pick, so refreshing the page does not silently change a saved seed.
What a short list is for. Deciding between “cook something” and an hour of scrolling. It is a bad source for a restaurant menu, a shopping order or a clinical diet. The dishes are names, not recipes: no quantities, no allergens, no claim that a dish is vegetarian unless the name itself says vegetable. Butter chicken is on the Indian list and it is not a suggestion for someone who does not eat meat. Read the name.
No photos, no maps, no delivery. The page does not know what is open near you. It does not sort by price. Five dishes is the cap so the result stays a nudge rather than a catalogue. If you want a longer menu, you are past what a fixed list should pretend to be.
Honesty about randomness. Given the seed, the pick is determined. Without looking at the seed it looks like a draw. That is the useful kind of random for a tool: surprising the first time, repeatable when you need to show your working. Say the seed out loud if several people are picking together, otherwise you are comparing different draws and calling it a disagreement.
Worked examples
Two dishes from the mixed list
Inputs: Cuisine: any | How many: 2 | Seed: 7
Choose cuisine any, how many 2 and seed 7. The two names are different dishes.
Result: Cuisine: any
Seed: 7
1. roast chicken
2. pad thai
A short list for deciding a meal, not a nutrition plan.
One Indian dish from the same seed
Inputs: Cuisine: indian | How many: 1 | Seed: 7
Choose cuisine indian, how many 1 and seed 7. The cuisine changes the list, so the dish is not one of the mixed-list pair.
Result: Cuisine: indian
Seed: 7
1. vegetable biryani
A short list for deciding a meal, not a nutrition plan.
Use cases
- Ending a long debate about dinner with a seeded pick.
- A classroom example of a repeatable draw.
- A writing prompt that names a dish.
- Showing that the same seed in another cuisine is a different dish.
Tips & limitations
- Read the dish. The list includes meat.
- Keep the seed if you need the same answer again.
- Five is the maximum, and a short cuisine list may return fewer.
- This is not a meal plan.
FAQ
Are these recipes?
No. Each row is the name of a dish. There are no quantities and no steps.
Why did I get fewer dishes than I asked for?
The cuisine list ran out. Dishes are not repeated inside one press.
Does the same seed work in every cuisine?
The seed is combined with the cuisine, so Indian at seed 7 is not the mixed list at seed 7.
Can it avoid an ingredient?
No. There is no allergen filter. Read the names and skip what you do not eat.
Will refreshing the page change the pick?
Not if the seed, the cuisine and the count stay the same. The draw does not use the clock.
Is the choice uploaded?
No. The pick runs in the browser.
