How to use
- Stamp DRAFT on the three A4 pages.
- Stamp COPY on the two Letter pages.
- Do not treat the grey word as a password.
Formula / how it works
DRAFT across the three A4 pages, and COPY across the two Letter pages. Helvetica at 64 points, grey, 35% opacity, tilted 30 degrees, centred. The words are text operators. They are not a lock. Anyone can copy the text, and the stamp does not encrypt the file. pdf-lib cannot set a password, so this page does not pretend that a watermark is protection.
Forty characters is the cap. An empty box stops the run. The stamp is drawn on every page. There is no "only page 1" switch. If the cover should stay clean, stamp the body and merge the cover afterwards.
Opacity 0.35 means the letters under the stamp, if any, still show. These samples are sparse, so the stamp sits on white. On a photograph page the grey letters will cross the picture. They will not knock out a hole. A password stops the stamp. The original file is not overwritten.
DRAFT goes on all three A4 pages. COPY goes on both Letter pages. The face is Helvetica at 64 points, grey, tilted 30 degrees, at 35 percent opacity. The word is text, not a password. pdf-lib cannot encrypt a PDF, and this page does not claim otherwise. Forty characters is the limit. Every page receives the stamp. A clean cover is a merge you do afterwards, not a checkbox here.
The tilt is 30 degrees and the opacity is 0.35 on every page, not a per-page choice. DRAFT and COPY were short on purpose. A 40 character line at 64 points can run off a narrow page. widths-3.pdf has a 200 point page, and a long stamp would cross the edge. These samples used the wider A4 and Letter pages. The stamp does not remove the sentence that was already on the report. Both can be true at once because the stamp is translucent. DRAFT on the report and COPY on the invoice are the two words the samples actually drew.
DRAFT is the word on the three A4 pages. COPY is the word on the two Letter pages. Both are grey, both are tilted 30 degrees, and both are 35 percent opaque. Neither word encrypts the file. A long stamp on a 200-point page can cross the edge, which is why these samples used A4 and Letter. Forty characters is the cap, and an empty box never draws.
Digits at the foot of the page are PDF page numbers. The stamp is not a shrink step. That is the PDF compressor.
Worked examples
Stamp DRAFT on the report
Inputs: pwt-f: report-a4-3pages.pdf | pwt-text: DRAFT
On this page, take report-a4-3pages.pdf, then DRAFT and press Stamp. The grey word is text, not a lock.
Result: Stamped "DRAFT" on 3 pages in grey Helvetica, tilted 30 degrees, at 35% opacity. It is real text…
Stamp COPY on the invoice
Inputs: pwt-f: invoice-letter-2pages.pdf | pwt-text: COPY
On this page, take invoice-letter-2pages.pdf, then COPY and press Stamp. The grey word is text, not a lock.
Result: Stamped "COPY" on 2 pages in grey Helvetica, tilted 30 degrees, at 35% opacity. It is real text,…
Use cases
- Marking a report as a draft without encrypting it.
- Marking an invoice COPY at 35% opacity.
- Crossing a sparse page with 64-point Helvetica tilted 30 degrees.
- Keeping the stamp as real text so it is obvious it is not a lock.
Tips & limitations
- Forty characters is the longest stamp.
- Every page is stamped. A clean cover means merge the cover after.
- Opacity 0.35 leaves whatever was underneath still visible.
- pdf-lib cannot set a user password, so this page will not claim that it did.
FAQ
What was stamped on the A4 report?
DRAFT, in grey Helvetica, 64 points, tilted 30 degrees, at 35% opacity, on all three pages.
What was stamped on the invoice?
COPY, with the same tilt, size and opacity, on both pages.
Does the stamp lock the file?
No. It is text. It does not encrypt anything.
Can I stamp only the cover?

How long can the word be?
40 characters. An empty box is refused.
Is a locked PDF stamped?
No. The run stops before it draws.
