Zalgo Text Generator

This glitch text generator has two different effects. Zalgo mode stacks Unicode combining marks above, through and under each letter so the line looks corrupted. Glitch mode swaps some letters for Greek lookalikes and leaves the line readable. A cursed mode uses a heavier stack of the same marks.

New

The seed fixes the choice of marks, so the examples on this page can be repeated. Empty seed is treated as the seed 1. The page does not try to hide a message or slip past a filter.

How to use

  1. Type a short line. Long paragraphs of stacked marks become hard to select.
  2. Choose zalgo, glitch letters, or cursed, and choose a level. Cursed ignores the level and always stacks heavily.
  3. Set a seed if you want the same corruption again, then press Glitch.

Formula / how it works

Combining marks, which is what zalgo text is. A combining mark is a code point that does not take its own width. It attaches to the character before it. The zalgo set used here is a fixed list of marks that sit above the letter, a short list that strike through it, and a list that hang below. Low level adds one mark above and one below. Medium adds three above, one through and two below. High adds six, two and five. Cursed, the heavy end of a cursed text generator, always uses eight above, three through and eight below, which is enough to make a word hard to read and annoying to delete. The creepy text generator look people ask for is this stack, not a separate alphabet.

Why a seed is required for a stable line. Each mark is chosen from those lists by a fixed generator started from the seed. Seed 77, the word hello, zalgo mode and low level produce one specific stacked line. Change the seed and the marks change even though the letters stay. Glitch mode uses the same seed to decide which letters become Greek lookalikes. About five in six eligible letters are swapped at that setting, so a short word may change only some of its vowels. Hello with seed 77 in glitch mode becomes a spelling that still reads as hello if you know the Latin letters, with epsilon and omicron standing in for e and o.

Glitch letters are not a disguise. Greek ο is not Latin o, and Greek ε is not Latin e. They are lookalikes. The point of this glitch text generator is a visual shiver in a headline or a meme, the same job as a zalgo text generator with the stack turned off. Do not use the swaps to imitate another account, to fake an address, or to sneak a word past a checker. Filters that compare code points will not treat the lookalikes as the original letters, and using them that way is not what this page is for. If a site strips mixed-script text, the glitch line will come back plain or be rejected. That is the site working as designed.

Selecting and deleting the stack. A single visible letter can be a dozen code points. Backspace sometimes removes one mark at a time, which is why cursed lines feel sticky. Select the whole output and delete it if you need it gone. Some editors refuse to paste a long run of combining marks, and some social apps delete them on purpose because a tall stack can cover neighbouring lines of a page. Keep the level on low unless you have a reason to annoy the reader. The fancy text generator is the better tool when you want a readable alternate alphabet rather than damage.

Limits. Input is capped at 280 characters, and the cap matters more here than on a font page because each letter may grow by many marks. Spaces and line breaks are not stacked, so words stay separated. The level control does nothing in cursed mode; the label in the result says high so the copied block records that. There is no animation. The corruption is static text.

Repeating an example. To match a picture someone sent you, you need their text, mode, level and seed. The result prints all four. Without the seed, a fresh stack will not match even on the same word.

Worked examples

A light stack on hello

Inputs: Text: hello | Mode: zalgo | Level: low | Seed: 77

Type hello, set mode zalgo, level low and seed 77. Each letter gets a short pair of marks and the line still starts with h, e, l, l, o.

Result: Mode: zalgo Level: low Seed: 77 Zalgo text: h̗̎e̮͂l͉̃l͇͒ó̞

Lookalike letters, same seed

Inputs: Text: hello | Mode: glitch | Level: low | Seed: 77

Type hello, set mode glitch, level low and seed 77. The marks stay off and a few letters become Greek lookalikes.

Result: Mode: glitch Level: low Seed: 77 Glitch text: hεllο

Use cases

  • A zalgo text caption where the letters should still be guessable.
  • Repeating a stack by sharing the seed with the word.
  • A glitch spelling that uses lookalikes instead of a pile of marks.
  • Seeing how quickly cursed mode becomes hard to select, before you paste it anywhere.

Tips & limitations

  • Stay on low if the text still needs to be read.
  • Copy the seed line with the result if you want the same stack later.
  • Do not use lookalikes to imitate someone or to dodge a filter.
  • Delete a cursed line by selecting all of it. Backspace removes one mark at a time.

FAQ

What is zalgo text?

Letters with combining marks stacked above, through and under them so the line looks corrupted. The marks are real Unicode, not an image.

How is glitch mode different?

It swaps some letters for Greek lookalikes and does not stack marks. The word stays on one line height.

Why does cursed ignore the level?

Cursed is defined as the heavy stack, eight marks above and eight below, so the level menu would only confuse the result.

Can I recover the plain word from a stack?

The base letters are still there, before each run of marks. Selecting and pasting into an editor that strips marks is one way to see them. This page does not offer a cleaner.

Will every site keep the marks?

No. Some chats delete long combining sequences because they can overlap other lines. Paste a low stack first.

Is the line uploaded?

No. Marks are chosen in the browser from the seed.

Runs entirely in your browser; your text is not uploaded. Counts and scores are heuristics, so review the output before you publish it.
