FAQs
How is a dog’s age converted?
The first year counts as 15 human years, the second as 9 more, then 4 to 6 per year depending on breed size — larger breeds age a little faster.
What about cats?
Cats use 15 for the first year, 9 for the second, then 4 human years for each year after that.
Is this accurate for my pet?
It is a widely used rough guide, not a precise measure. Breed, size, diet and health all shift the real picture — ask your vet for advice about your pet.
Why do rabbits and hamsters use a simple multiplier?
Small pets mature so quickly that a straight multiplier (about 8 for rabbits, 25 for hamsters) gives a reasonable estimate of their short lifespans in human terms.
