FAQs
What is the CSS filter property?
The filter property applies graphical effects — such as blur, brightness or colour shifts — to an element before it is rendered, much like photo filters in an editing app.
Can I combine multiple filters?
Yes. Filters are space-separated and applied in order, so blur(2px) grayscale(50%) blurs first and then desaturates. The generator builds the combined value for you.
Do CSS filters affect performance?
Filters are GPU-accelerated in modern browsers, but heavy filters over large areas can still cost performance — use them thoughtfully on big backgrounds.
Are CSS filters supported in all browsers?
Yes. The filter property is supported by all modern browsers, including Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari.
What is the difference between filter and backdrop-filter?
filter affects the element itself, while backdrop-filter applies effects to whatever is behind the element — handy for frosted-glass panels.
