Planning to hang wallpaper? Our free Wallpaper Calculator works out exactly how many rolls you need from your wall measurements, roll size and pattern repeat — so you can buy with confidence and avoid a mid-project trip back to the shop.
A standard UK and EU roll is 0.53 m × 10.05 m. Results are rounded up — keeping a spare roll is wise for mistakes and future repairs.

FAQs
How many rolls of wallpaper do I need for one wall?
Divide the wall length by the roll width and round up to find how many strips you need, then divide by the number of strips you can cut from one roll. The calculator above does this for you in one click.
What is pattern repeat?
Pattern repeat is the vertical distance before a wallpaper design starts over. Because each strip must be cut longer to match the pattern, patterned papers need more rolls than plain ones — enter the repeat length shown on the roll label.
Should I buy extra wallpaper?
Yes. The calculator already rounds up, but buying one spare roll is sensible: it covers cutting mistakes and gives you matching paper for future repairs, since dye lots can vary.
What size is a standard wallpaper roll?
In the UK and EU a standard roll is 0.53 m wide and 10.05 m long, covering about 5 m² before trimming and pattern matching. US double rolls are wider and longer.
Does the calculator subtract doors and windows?
No — it calculates for the full wall area, which gives a safe overestimate. If you have very large openings, you can reduce the total wall length a little to compensate.
