FAQs

How much gravel do I need?

Multiply length × width × depth (all in feet) for cubic feet, then divide by 27 for cubic yards. The calculator above does the maths for you, including the inches-to-feet depth conversion.

How many tonnes are in a cubic yard of gravel?

About 1.4 tonnes for typical loose gravel. Dense crushed stone can be heavier, so treat the weight as an estimate and confirm with your supplier.

What depth should a gravel driveway be?

3 to 4 inches of compacted gravel over a firm sub-base is standard for cars. Go deeper (5–6 inches) for heavy vehicles or soft ground.

Should I allow extra for compaction?

Yes — order 5–10% more than the calculated volume. Gravel settles and compacts, and ground is rarely perfectly level.

Is my project data sent anywhere?

No. The calculator runs entirely in your browser with JavaScript, so your measurements never leave your device.
