FAQs

How are words split?

On any whitespace — spaces, tabs and line breaks. Each word is then placed on its own line in the output.

What does case-insensitive sorting mean?

Words are compared ignoring capitalisation, so “apple” comes before “Banana”. With it off, capitals sort before lowercase as in strict ASCII order.

Does it remove duplicates?

Only if you tick the option. Otherwise every occurrence is kept, which is useful for frequency work.

Can I sort numbers too?

Numbers sort as text here (so 10 comes before 9). For true numeric sorting, use the Sort Lines Alphabetically tool with numeric awareness, or a spreadsheet.
